Celebrating Women Playwrights
Our Celebrating Women Playwrights program builds on our extraordinary foundation, and continues Cherry Lane’s groundbreaking work in creating opportunities for women artists whose voices have been underserved. We provide a safe environment for our female playwrights to take creative risks, investigate new avenues of collaboration, and hone individual and collective skills. One example of this is the success of Irene O’Garden’s Women on Fire, with Judith Ivey, which transferred to our Mainstage for a limited engagement, then had a sold-out extension and garnered a Lucille Lortel nomination for Outstanding Solo Show. Celebrating Women Playwrights also conducts forums, as well as Master Classes with Pulitzer award-winning Playwrights Marsha Norman, Wendy Wasserstein, and Pulitzer-nominee Theresa Rebeck.
