Cherry Lane's Mission: To cultivate an urban artist colony, honor our groundbreaking history, and engage audiences as partners in creating theater that illuminates contemporary issues, and at its best, transforms the spirit.
Situated in a landmark building in Greenwich Village, Cherry Lane Theatre serves as a vital lab for the development of new American works and a home for groundbreaking productions of both new and classic theater of the highest caliber. As New York's longest continuously running Off-Broadway theatre, Cherry Lane has helped to define American drama, fostering fresh, daring, and relevant theater since 1924.
Our programs include the Obie Award-winning Mentor Project, developing and producing new works by emerging playwrights, Discovery Series, staging World Premiere productions, Heritage Series, reviving landmark plays from Cherry Lane’s rich history, Master Classes, featuring discussions with today’s leading theater artists, and many others.
Cherry Lane Theatre at 38 Commerce Street houses two distinct stages: the 179-seat historical Mainstage and the 60-seat Studio Theatre.
